God is our inheritance. There is nothing else that we shall receive that shall be as wonderful as our relationship with God. We have received God because of all the investing that our ancestors did on our behalf. God did not come to us out of the blue, but through the teaching, preaching and sharing of the faith from those saints who came before us.
God as our inheritance is also our blessing. Have you ever thought about your relationship with God as a blessing? Do you feel blessed by your closeness to God - no matter how much closer you feel you ought to be?
And God guards our relationship with him. As God is our inheritance, we have this blessing that shall never be taken away from us. God will guard all that is ours and all that is ours is God. Although the psalmist is speaking quite literally about the promised land, we have a pleasant land as well. It is where we dwell right now in God's sight, in God's care, as God's blessing.
Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! In Jesus' name. Amen.
