Praise the Lord, all you who fear him! Honor him, all you descendants of Jacob! Show him reverence all you descendants of Israel! For he has not ignored the suffering of the needy. He has not turned and walked away. He has listened to their cries for help. Psalm 22: 23-24 NLT
Interesting that this psalm does not say to praise God for all that God has done for you. This psalm says to praise God because God has not ignored the sufferings of those in need. Praise God for God has not turned God's back on those who suffer. Praise God because God has heard their cries for help.
Not my cries for help. But their cries for help.
Certainly the idea is that the psalmist has been needy and suffering at one time. But this is more than just a story about a personal rescue. This is all about God's nature. God hears and delivers those who suffer. This might be you. Or it might be a child halfway across the world. God is not just personal but global.
What suffering are you under at this moment? Where are the needy in your community who need God at this moment? How about around the world?
Praise God that God hears our cries and their cries! Praise God that God does not ignore the suffering of the needy! May we also not ignore or turn and walk away from the needy. May we listen for their cries for help. Amen.
