I hate those who worship worthless idols. I trust in the Lord. Psalm 31:6 NLT
Although hate is a strong word, we Christians know how to hate pretty well. We've hated those who are of different religions (Muslims, Jews, Hindus) as well as those who are of no religion. Just take a look at world history to see our hate in action. Today in America we tend to hate those who are participating in immoral sexual behavior, those who kill the unborn and those who are here illegally.
But what about those who worship worthless idols?
Not idols made of clay or wood.
Idols like celebrities. Writers. Self-help gurus.
Idols who speak on talk radio or “act” on reality television shows.
Idols who show up on the nightly news or entertainment magazines and websites.
Idols who have become successful, rich, and powerful.
We do tend to worship such idols. Just look at the hit show “American Idol.”
The psalmist reminds us that only God is worthy of our worship. We should trust in God. And in God alone.
Honestly, who do you worship?
God, we trust in you alone. In Jesus' name. Amen.
