The Peace of God

The Lord rules over the floodwaters. The Lord reigns as King forever. The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace. Psalm 29: 10-11 NLT

After the voice of the Lord has caused destruction and mayhem like a natural catastrophe, God brings peace. God is not only in the fury of the storm but also the peace and calm following the storm.

Think of what it is like after a storm has passed by. The birds resume singing. There is a gentle breeze rather than abrupt thunder. Streams are full and run smoothly by the banks. It is as if nature is again breathing with a sigh of relief. The air seems cleaner, cooler, and more refreshing. This is the peace of God.

The psalmist reminds us that it is God who rules, even during a storm. The reason we know this is the same peace that reigns following a storm is the peace that God also gives God's people.

God, thank you for the peace you give to each one of us. May your peace reign in our hearts this day. In Jesus' name. Amen.
