O Lord, come back to us! How long will
you delay? Take pity on your servants! Satisfy us each morning with
your unfailing love, so we may sing of joy at the end of our lives.
Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil
years with good. Let us, your servants, see you work again; let our
children see your glory. And may the Lord our God show us his
approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts
successful! Psalm 90: 13-17 NLT
I wonder in what efforts the psalmist
wanted to be successful. Perhaps he was asking for a good harvest to
keep from being placed into slavery. Maybe he wanted success on the
battlefield so that his country and home would be safe from enemies.
Or it is possible that the psalmist simply wanted the king to do
well, to make the country prosper. Any of those scenarios would fit.
In what areas of your life do you want
to be successful? Success can mean receiving lots of recognition but
it can also mean simply doing well on a day to day basis in your life
and in your work. In fact, the psalmist says that the best approval
is God's approval. I think that is the kind of success the psalmist
really wants.
God, make my efforts successful so that
I receive your approval. In Jesus' name. Amen.
