Give
thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world
know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell
everyone about his wonderful deeds. Exult in his holy name; rejoice,
you who worship the Lord. Search for the Lord and for his strength;
continually seek him. Remember the wonders he has performed, his
miracles, and the rulings he has given, you children of his servant
Abraham, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones. Psalm 105: 1-6
NLT
So
begins Psalm 105 which then retells the story from Abraham to Moses.
The purpose of the storytelling is simply an act of praise to God and
also a reminder to all the listeners of what God has done for them
and for their ancestors.
What
has God done for your relatives? Do you know a story about your
grandparents and their faith? Or perhaps you are the first Christian
in your family –what stories will your children tell about you?
As
followers of Christ, we become part of the story of salvation and
are able to praise God for all God has done. Spend some time today
thinking back in your own life or the lives of you loved ones and see
again what God has done in your lives.
God,
we give thanks to you and proclaim your greatness. We will tell the
whole world what you have done for us, all the deeds you have done in
our lives and the lives of those we love. In Jesus' name. Amen.
