To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity. To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the wicked you show yourself hostile. Psalm 18: 25-26 NLT
These verses tell us that God reflects our strongest qualities. This doesn't mean that God is limited to any one quality. Neither does it mean that we can control God with our own individuality. It does mean that if our overall morality is not good, God will not reflect that quality but will become aggravated. God will become against us rather than mirroring our personality.
It is comforting to know that God is not all that different from me. I like the fact that God can mirror those qualities that are essential to who I am. God seems to want to be familiar to us and to be someone who reflects the best things about us. That could also mean that God then becomes someone to emulate. If you are an honest person and honesty is very essential to your life, then God is honest in an entirely holy manner. You see God and want to become even more true to who you are.
God, thank you for mirroring our very best qualities. May we not show the negative sides of our personalities but follow you as an example, becoming even stronger in your shadow. In Jesus' name. Amen.
